Spectrum awareness disconnected from tactical common operating picture
A defense organization operated RF sensing systems that generated valuable intelligence about emitter locations and spectrum activity, but this information existed in separate tools disconnected from the tactical displays used by operators in the field. Units could not see RF intelligence in the context of their operational picture.
The core challenge was integrating RF sensing data into ATAK (Android Team Awareness Kit), the standard tactical situational awareness platform used across DoD. This required translating complex RF data into intuitive visualizations that operators could understand at a glance during high-tempo operations.
Without integration, operators had to mentally correlate information between multiple displays, introducing latency and cognitive load that degraded decision-making when speed and accuracy mattered most.
