Founder and principal engineer. Dr. Butts works across AI and machine learning, defense and security systems, and custom hardware development — with a record of taking programs from concept through deployment in commercial, research, and defense environments.

At Xtremis AI, he served as Director of Experimentation and Deputy Principal Investigator — establishing and operating a 600-acre isolated RF research facility, leading cross-functional teams on ML-driven signal identification and localization systems, and deploying to Middle Eastern warzones to integrate novel RF capabilities with Special Operations Task Forces under live mission conditions. Prior to that, he led radar systems research for the KCNSC/Honeywell Radar Consortium at the University of Arkansas, and completed two internships at Northrop Grumman in aerospace systems integration.

His doctoral research at the University of Arkansas focused on high-frequency semiconductor device modeling and computational electromagnetics. He holds a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering and a B.S. from FAMU-FSU College of Engineering.

Dr. Butts is a National Merit Scholar, Tau Beta Pi Fellow, and recipient of the Black Engineer of the Year Student Academic Award. He holds multiple issued and provisional patents and has published across peer-reviewed journals and presented at technical conferences internationally.
